THE ALI FORNEY BENEFIT CONCERT
The Ali Forney Center is the largest organization helping LGBTQ homeless youth in the United States. By managing and developing transitional housing, AFC helps approximately 1,400 young people every year, most between the ages of 16 and 24.
Named after Ali Forney, a gender-nonconforming youth who was murdered in New York in 1997, the Ali Forney Center is located in 15 buildings across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. In 2017, the Center provided 124 beds a night for homeless LGBT youth. In addition, AFC runs a drop-in center offering a range of services, including help applying for housing, case management, and access to free health care.
The Event
On February 27th, award-winning violinist Emanuele De Biase will present works from his new project, “Bach to the People,” at the Church of the Ascension in New York. The concert will feature three sonatas from Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin—a cornerstone “Bach to the People,” which aims to make Bach’s music more widely available.
After coming to know the AFC last year, Emanuele pledged to support the organization’s exceptional work in the year ahead. To that end, all proceeds from the concert will benefit the Ali Forney Center.
The event will be generously sponsored by Christophe Landon, who will provide Emanuele De Biase with a special instrument for the occasion.
